Lord's Prayer | Intercessory Prayer | Prayer of Jabez | Patience | Jesus on Mt. Olive
The Lord's Prayer February 13, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Luke 11; Matthew 6:6-16 |
| Summary: |
The Lord's Prayer is a basic Christian prayer. As a model of prayer, every Christian learns it by heart. Though we memorize it as a set formula, the Lord's Prayer shouldn't be repeated mechanically or without thought. Its purpose is to awaken and stimulate our faith. Through this prayer Jesus invites us to approach God as Father. The Lord's Prayer is a guide or an outline on how to pray. Jesus does not make us use these exact words or demand this set form, but gives a proper brief simple example of payer. |

Intercessory Prayer February 27, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
John 15:13; John 17 |
| Summary: |
Intercessory Prayer is praying for others. It is when we stand in the gap and ask God to help others. The greatest intercessor was Jesus Christ himself. He died on the cross for us and became our intercessory to God. In John 17 we see Jesus's prayer to God on behalf of all of us. As Jesus prayed for us, we must also pray for others. |

Prayer of Jabez March 5, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
1Chronicles 4:9-10 |
| Summary: |
Jabez is only mentioned in these two versus of the bible, but from his prayer we learn that little prayers can bring big blessings. Jabez's prayer is composed of four parts: First Jabez asks God to bless him, next he asks for his territory (or responsibility) to be increased, then he asked that God keep his hand upon him, and finally he asked God to keep him from evil. God answered his prayer. We learned how to pray for others before, but in this prayer we learn how to pray for ourselves or petition. Jabez understood that he couldn't have or do nothing with out God; thus he cried out this prayer. Today we can pray this prayer. By asking God to bless us more, increase our responsibility for Him, that he will stay with us during our witness, and that He will protect us from God.

Patience in Prayer March 19, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Romans 5:1-6 |
| Summary: |
Patience is defined as enduring and long suffering. Many times we pray for something to happen and expect God to act right away. As Christians we sometimes must go through something before we receive our blessing. Going through this struggle serves a purpose; it allows us to grow strong so that we may be ready for the call and the blessings that God has for us. |

Jesus Prayed on Mt. Olive March 26, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Luke 22:20-23,39-46; Matthew 26:36-46; Genesis 44:4-9; Mark 14:35-36; Matthew 20:20-23 |
| Summary: |
After the Last Supper Jesus walked up to Mt. Olive where he often prayed. He asked them to pray that they would not do evil. Jesus then went away from them and prayed. Jesus asked God that he would not have to drink of this cup; but that God will and not his would be done. The cup represented the task of dying for our sins. Jesus was 100% human and 100% God and he did not want to feel the sorrow or pain that he was and would be feeling by dying on the cross. Like Jesus we should pray for God's will not our will to be done, because when our will lines up with His will that is when we will receive our true blessings. |

Introducing Faith April 2, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Hebrews 11 |
| Summary: |
In Hebrews 11 we get a definition of faith and we get a list of people who exhibited great faith in the bible. If you study these versus you will see that these people put all of their trust in God. In our mind it may seem impossible but through God it is possible. Having faith in God means being Kingdom minded and not thinking by the physical limitations of our minds. |

Peter's Faith May 7, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Matthew 14:25-33 |
| Summary: |
When Jesus walked on the water, the disciples saw him and were terrified, they thought he was a ghost. Jesus said don't be afraid It is I. Peter said if it is you ask me to come; Jesus said come. Peter waked on the water, but when the winds started to pick up Peter looked and started to sink. Peter's faith had turned to fear. He screamed for Jesus and Jesus saved him and said "Ye of little faith" Peter was a model for Christians to follow. He stumbled and fell but he always new where his strength came from, Jesus. Peter was the only on that had faith to step out when Jesus called. When he took his eye off Jesus he started to sink, but immediacy called on Jesus to help. In our Every day lives we must keep our eye on Jesus. Like Peter "winds" or struggles may come at us but we can't take our eye off Jesus to worry about them because then we start to sink in them. It is an on going battle with our spirit-man and physical body. We allow fear to cripple us and then our flesh takes over, Have faith and keep your eye on Jesus.

Levels of Faith May 21, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Hebrews 11:1-6; Genesis 22:9-17 |
| Summary: |
We must have a level of faith that pleases God. God told Abraham to go and to sacrifice his son. Abraham went without hesitation having full faith in God's plan. Just as Abraham was about to kill his son an angel said stop and presented a ram in the bush for the sacrifice. Not only must we have that level of faith that is in line with God's will but we must act on it. |

Faith on the Inside May 28, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Genesis 15:3-7; Genesis 16; 1 Samuel 16; Romans 8:17 |
| Summary: |
Greek Words for Faith
Elpis - expectation, confidence in faith
Oligopistos - lacking faith
God promised Abram a child of his own and Abram had Elpis faith that it would happen. Abram's wife Sarai could not have children; thus she gave Abram her servant Hagar. Hagar bore a son and called him Ishmael. Here we see oligopistos faith. Sarai took it upon herself to get Hagar to bear a son. This son was not God's plan, and he was the start of the Muslim religion. As God promised he later blessed Abram and Sarai with a child and called him Isaac.
When David went to go fight Goliath, Samuel offered him his armor, but David said no. He knew the armor was to big and would slow him down. Often times we try to be like someone else because we see the anointing that they have. We can't wear their armor because it may be too big or even to small. We must know who we are in Christ and have faith, Elpis faith that we will walk the path that he has set. |

0Faith: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob June 4, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Genesis 24:1-6; Genesis 12:1-3;Genesis 25:19-23; 27-34; Genesis 31 |
| Summary: |
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Grandfather, Father, and son, were three men that learned to have strong faith in God. God told Abraham to leave his country. God said he would bless him there and Abraham had faith that God would do what He had said. As stated in the previous lesson Abraham was promised a son and through faith he and his wife were blessed with Isaac. Later, Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac. Abraham still held on to his faith that his descendants would be blessed as he would and he told his servant to trust and have faith in God that he would find a wife for Isaac.
Isaac had that same strong faith as Abraham, when he asked God to bless his wife Rebekah with a child. Rebekah bore twins, Esau and Jacob. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for some food; God had already said that the second son would get the inheritance. With Jacob, God's plan came full circle.

| Scripture: |
Ruth 1; Genesis 19 |
| Summary: |
The Story of Ruth shows us how our Christianity or our light should shine for others to see. That the world can see the Christ that is on the inside of us. Ruth was married to one of Naomi's sons. Naomi soon found herself alone, her husband had died and later both her sons had died. She told her two daughter in laws, including Ruth, to leave and go back home, but Ruth refused and clung to Naomi creating a covenant with her. She said her home will be her home and her God will also be her God. The outside world had took its toll on Naomi making her unrecognizable to her home people, but Ruth could still see the woman of God in Naomi. |

Grace in terms of Christianity is defined as a state of sanctification by God; the state of one who is under such divine influence.
The grace of God is defined as the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God.
It is by the grace of God that he sent his son Jesus to die for our sins. It is by his grace that we can accept Jesus as our Lord and savior and join the kingdom of heaven.
"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:4-10
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Corinthians 12:9

| Scripture: |
Mark 14:1-9; Acts 10:1-15; 1Samuel 18, 20 |
| Summary: |
Grace is a gift from God. He sent his son down to die for our sins. Once we are saved, we may sin, but we are no longer sinners. The Grace that God has shown, we as Christians should be able to show that same grace to our fellow Christian brother and sisters.

Christianity: Salvation: Introduction September 18, 2008 |
| Summary: |
The simple answer to what a Christian is; is that they are a follower of Christ. Now with this answer comes many more questions, some that we have listed. As soon as you accept Jesus in your life and become born again you are a Christian; this is salvation. That you are saved from sin and going hell when you die. Salvation defined; redemption: the act of delivering from sin or saving from evil. Once saved this is not the end of the of the story. You are now a Christian a follower who has a job to spread God's word. Everyone will have different ministries to fulfil it is up to you to pray and find out what that ministry is so that you can work on building God's kingdom. |

Where Christians find happiness: October 1, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Ecclesiastes 2 |
| Summary: |
King Solomon was a rich man who had it all. With all his money and possessions he realized he was still not truly happy. He discovered that it was the work to get to the riches that made him happy. The work that he did for God that brought him true happiness.
Being a Christian means there will be good times and bad times. During both we should be happy and thankful just because of the God we serve. Where do Christians find happiness? In God, in Jesus and the work that we do for Him. |

Living Water: October 8, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
John 4:4-26 |
| Summary: |
Here we find Jesus and his disciples traveling through Samaria. Jesus meets a woman at the well and asked her for some water. The woman asked how could Jesus a Jew as her a Samaritan for some water; because Jews and Samaritans had nothing to do with each other. Jesus responded with if you knew who was asking, you would be asking me about the water that gives life. She saw Jesus had no bucket and wondered how he could get any water. He told her with his water she would never thirst again. At first this woman was ignorant to who she was talking to, but once Jesus prophesied to her; she knew he was special and once he told her he was the Messiah, she went out and told others to come see him.
Being a Christian means being hungry or thirsty for the word of God. Jesus used water because water sustains life. We need "physical" water to live. As Christians we need the water that Jesus spoke of; himself. With Jesus in us we will never thirst again; we will be fulfilled.
From this chapter we also see how we as Christians should minister to others. Jesus came to the Samaritan woman and was polite. Out of respect he asked for her to go get her husband; knowing she was not married and was living with a man and had been married five times before. When we minister to non-believers or when we confront believers we must follow Jesus example and come with the true intent of bringing them the word of God and come to them with love and care.
Once the Samaritan woman was ministered to, she went out and told others about Jesus and literally brought them to him. As soon as we are ministered to and accept Christ and become Christians, the job starts right then and there. We now must go out and minister to others and build the Kingdom of God. The Samaritan woman evangelized right after talking to Jesus. |

Sanctification, Justification, Edification: October 29, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Mathew 7:15-20; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:7-12; Galations 5:16-26; 2 Corinthians 3:15-18 |
| Summary: |
As Christians we must remember not to forget our self, when we are studying and strengthening our spiritual gifts. We must also pray for ourselves along with our gifts i.e. we can't only pray for our title like teacher for example and leave it at that wee must also ask for strength for yourself. We must ask God to fix us, the foundation before asking for other things. We can't live in our giftings and not build our character. |

Stewardship: November 5, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Luke 16:1-3; 1 Kings 17 |
| Summary: |
Being a good steward means taking care of what you have been given. God has given all Christians a job and things to take care of. We must learn to take care of those things no matter how big or small, because then and only then can he bless us with more and take us to the next level. Being a Christian means going through the process of sanctification; a growing process. |

Faith and Fear: November 12, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Matthew 14:22-36 |
| Summary: |
When it comes to Christianity fear has to meanings; the fear of God and fear as we know it, to be afraid. Here we talk about the fear that means to be afraid. We see how Peter had faith to walk on the water, but when he saw the storm he became afraid and began to sink. We can't let fear keep us from seeing Jesus. We must have faith and not be afraid, because we know the power that God has. The bigger your faith, the smaller your fear will be. |

Sowing Seeds: November 19, 2008 |
| Scripture: |
Mark 4:3-9;13-20 |
| Summary: |
As Christians, it is important for us not only to sow seeds but to sow seeds into the right places. The parable of the seed sower shows what happens when seeds fall in certain places as in life when the word of God is spread and that Christians are blessed by other Christians. Seeds we plant, blessing we spread, need to be placed on fertile ground, into receptive people, where it can take root and grow so that they can produce fruit and sow into others. |
